The E63/64 6 Series is dog-barf ugly, and its poor owners wound up paying $80K for the visual twin of the Camry Solara. It was also heavy as lead, which made it, well not slow, but maybe not as fast as you'd like if you were putting up with Solara looks and a big price tag. It also shat on the memory of the gorgeous E24 and E9. But what if you didn't know any of that history and all your taste is in your mouth? Would you be interested in an FR, German cruiser coupe with a 6-speed and 325 hp for $13K?

Cheap-ass 6

Because if I was to only drive one car for the rest of my life, it would have to be a Lancia 037. Or maybe a Stratos. Or a Delta Integrale. Or an F50. Or an R34 Skyline GTR. Or an R32 Skyline GTR. Or a 1970 Chalenger R/T. Or a 917. Or a Viper ACR. Or a '63 Corvette. Or an F40. Or a Zonda Cinque. Or a 250 GTO. Or a DB4 Zagato. Or an e30 M3. Or a Miata. Or a Carrera GT. Or a Hemi Cuda. Or an LFA. Or a 458. Or a Cobra. Or a Gumpert Apollo. Or a Sport quattro. Or an E-Type. Or an SLR. Or a TVR Sagaris. You know what, I could go on but I clearly can't make up my mind about what car I like best.

Perfectly stated. One of the ugliest cars that BMW has made. And, considering how massive the car is on the outside, the interior is surprisingly limited.

They look nothing alike, unless all you think is "sloping hood coupe" is the only way to describe the car.

The Solara's headlamps protrude and extend along the front fender. The 6 series's are set inward, and only extent along the facia, the fender wraps around them.

The 6 series has a flat fender line, whereas the Solara's fender line rises up toward the rear.

The Solara's fenders bulge wider than the wheel fit ment, the 6 series meets them.

The Solara's bottom aero rises along the length of the car, the 6 series stays flat.

The Solara's doors and wheel arches bend and flex, the 6 series follows a single curve.

These may seem small, but they make a huge impact on the presentation of the car. The 6 series has power when it is parked, and it's still considered beautiful by a lot of people. I just saw one outside an extremely expensive restaurant last week, parked by the door by the valet so people will see it while they walk up. This is the same type of thing done for SLS AMGs and Ferrari 599s.

Basically, the 6 series is a smooth, rounded stone, and the solara shaped like a potato. Sure, they're both round, but one is clearly more beautiful. I actually really, really like the original 6 series, more so than the later ones, but they didn't have the power to back up their sportiness. The most recent one at least hits 400HP, the economy model excepting, and the M6's has the same HP as a 458, which is definitely respectable for a 4-seat coupe priced at $100,000.

Really, no car looks quite like a 6 series. It's like a larger Jaguar XK, Or Infiniti G35, with a little Rolls Royce injected in for flavor.

You obviously have never driven or ridden in an M6. As much as I love my (naturally aspirated) 911, I would prefer the M6 if I was running from the cops. The motor is just bat-**** Formula 1 inspired insane, and the driver aids actually make it manageable.

But, that car is not an M6. It is, apparently, a 645ci. And that introduces a problem. On the one hand, the chassis is amazing. But then you also have a low production BMW motor without the raw awesomeness of an M-series motor. So, effectively, you have a Mercedes. Great fun until something breaks.

I rode in a 2nd gen M6. That's not the car we're discussing, but it is just as ugly.
